Tension necklace GDX Amsterdam Ametrine
Much of my inspiration comes from architecture. Usually eyes are focused on the Amsterdamsche School but also small forays into other modernist styles of Erich Mendelsohn, for example, do well with my inspiration.
This yellow gold choker with pendant inspired by an art deco porch door in Amsterdam, on the Overtoom to be exact. The building, designed by Piet Marnette in 1923, was originally home to the traffic police and now houses Basic Fit, I believe. Despite its changing functions, it remains one of the most beautiful buildings in Amsterdam, where Piet Marnette worked at the municipal works department as an architect. In my opinion, it is also the most beautiful building he designed, because both the administration building of the Municipal Tram and the also designed by him main building of the Municipal Telephone Service do not have the panache that the Traffic Police Station does. Perhaps this is because Piet Marnette did not collaborate with sculptor Hildo Kropthis time....
