Man with 15 kilograms of gold bars apprehended at Schiphol Airport
A 27-year-old Brazilian man was arrested at Schiphol Airport who was carrying six gold bars. The bars have a value of more than seven tons. The man is suspected of money laundering.
The Brazilian was in transit to Hong Kong from Rio de Janeiro. Customs found the gold bars, totaling 15 kilograms, in the man's luggage. He could not give a good explanation as to why he was carrying the gold.
A spokesman for the military police told NH News that it is a special case: "This does not happen often, in that sense it is quite unique."
In addition to the gold, cash and a cell phone belonging to the Brazilian were also seized. Prosecutors are conducting further investigations into the find.
